Bill Watterson´s expressive and creative artwork provides the perfect complement to the amusing script of possibilities experienced by this terrific twosome. With each encounter, we are invited into Calvin´s world, and although we can´t transmogrify ourselves into Spaceman Spiff, a giant dinosaur, or an invisible cookie snatcher, we can certainly enjoy a vicarious ride. Listed as the favorite comic by newspapers nationwide.
Beginning with the day Hobbes sprang into Calvin´s tuna fish trap, the first two Calvin and Hobbes collections, Calvin and Hobbes and Something Under The Bed Is Drooling , are brought together in this treasury. Including black-and-white dailies and color Sundays, The Essential Calvin and Hobbes also features an original full-color 16-page story. Perhaps the most brilliant comic strip ever created, Calvin and Hobbes continues to entertain with dazzling cartooning and tremendous humor. Bill Watterson´s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you. Celebrating an exhibit of ten years of Sunday comics featuring the beloved boy and his tiger, Calvin and Hobbes: Sunday Pages 1985-1995 is sure to bring back memories. New York Times best-seller! Everyone misses Calvin and Hobbes. It reinvented the newspaper comic strip at a time when many had all but buried the funnies as a vehicle for fresh, creative work. Then Bill Watterson came along and reminded a new generation of what older readers and comic strip aficionados knew: A well-written and beautifully drawn strip is an intricate, powerful form of communication. And with Calvin and Hobbes, we had fun-just like readers of Krazy Kat and Pogo did. Opening the newspaper each day was an adventure. The heights of Watterson´s creative imagination took us places we had never been. We miss that. This book was published in conjunction with the first exhibition of original Calvin and Hobbes Sunday pages at The Ohio State University Cartoon Research Library. Although the work was created for reproduction, not for gallery display, was a pleasure to see the cartoonist´s carefully placed lines and exquisite brush strokes. In an attempt to share this experience with those who were unable to visit the exhibition, all of the original Sunday pages displayed are reproduced in color in this book so that every detail, such as sketch lines, corrections, and registration marks, are visible. On the opposite page the same comic strip is printed in full color. Because Watterson was unusually intentional and creative in his use of color, this juxtaposition provides Calvin and Hobbes readers the opportunity to consider the impact of color on its narrative and content. When I first contacted Bill Watterson about the possibility of exhibiting his original work, I used the term ´´retrospective.´´ He replied that we might be able to do an exhibit, but that calling it a retrospective made him uncomfortable. He felt that a longer time was needed to put Calvin and Hobbes in the historical perspective implied by that term. Nonetheless, this show is a ´´look back´´ at the comic strip as we revisit favorites that we remember. Calvin and Hobbes: Sunday Pages 1985-1995 is particularly interesting because each work that is included was selected by Bill Watterson. His comments about the thirty-six Sunday pages he chose are part of this volume. In addition, he reflects on Calvin and Hobbes from the perspective of six years, and his essay provides insights into his life as a syndicated cartoonist. Reprint books of Calvin and Hobbes are nice to have, but the opportunity to see the original work and read Bill Watterson´s thoughts about it is a privilege. He generously shared not only the art, but also his time and his thoughts. When I first reviewed the works included in the exhibit, I knew that everyone who visited it would begin with laughter and end with tears. On behalf of all who enjoyed Calvin and Hobbes, thank you, Bill Watterson. --Lucy Shelton Caswell, Professor and Curator The Ohio State University Cartoon Research Library, June 2001
Leroy Anderson´s melodies have become classic standards the world over. Calvin Custer has taken four of his most popular hits -- Blue Tango, Belle of the Ball, The Syncopated Clock and Serenata -- and combined them into one giant medley. Moderate in difficulty, this medley should be in every orchestra library! (5:59)

Billionaire genius Genoa Greeves never got over the shocking death of her favorite teacher, Bennett ´´Dr. Ben´´ Alston Little, murdered execution-style and stuffed into the trunk of his Mercedes-Benz. No arrests were ever made, no killer charged for the brutal crime. Fifteen years later, the high-tech CEO reads about another execution-style murder; this time the victim is a Hollywood music producer named Primo Ekerling. There is no obvious connection, but the case is eerily similar to Little´s, and Genoa feels the time is right to close Dr. Ben´s case once and for all - offering the L.A.P.D. a substantial financial ´´incentive´´ if justice is finally served for Little. Lieutenant Peter Decker resents having to commit valuable manpower to a 15-year-old open case simply because a rich woman says ´´Jump!´´ Still, the recent murder of Primo Ekerling does bear a disturbing resemblance to Little´s case, even though two thug suspects are currently behind bars for the Ekerling murder. Decker can´t help but wonder about a connection. His first phone calls are to the two primary investigators in the Little case, retired detectives Calvin Vitton and Arnie Lamar. Lamar is cooperative, but Vitton is not only reluctant to talk, he winds up dead of a suspicious suicide 12 hours later. Plunging into this long-buried murder, Decker discovers that even though the two slayings are separated by a decade and a half, there is still plenty of greed, lust, and evil to connect the dots. Decker´s team of top investigators not only includes his favorite homicide detectives, Scott Oliver and Marge Dunn, but also his newly minted Hollywood detective daughter, Cindy Kutiel, whose help proves to be invaluable. His wife, Rina Lazarus, continues to be his backbone of support, offering a cool, rational outlook despite her growing concern for her husband´s welfare and safety. Rina´s worries and fears begin to build at a fevered pitch as past and present collide with a vengea... 1. Language: English. Narrator: George Guidall. Who hasn´t experienced a pang of lust or longing at a photo of a male model? Whether a hundred times life size on a billboard or romping through the pages of a glossy magazine in his Calvins, Tommys, or Ralphs, the male model is the gold standard for masculine beauty. The characters in these stories run the gamut, from the billboard-gracing Aiden in Cynthia Hamilton´s ´´Big Picture´´, to life models in drawing classes, to runway models, to ordinary guys immortalized in a catalog shoot in T. Hitman´s ´´When Gary Met Larry´´. They hook up with artists, photographers, roommates, and lovers, in locations from New York to Miami to a beach in Australia, and many places in between. One thing all the male models here have in common is sex appeal and a yen for man-on-man action. These aren´t the kind of guys who say, ´´look but don´t touch´´ - they want to be touched, and in all the right places! The authors here, some of the best writing in gay erotica today, have taken hold of the idea of the male model and run with it. Here´s hoping you enjoy reading these as much as Neil Plakcy enjoyed working with the authors and assembling this collection. Teen twinks, fresh-faced 20-somethings, and the ravishing runway rogues in Model Men make for a tribute to the glory of gorgeous gay men. These erotic stories explore the undeniable attraction to classic good looks, charisma, and glamour. Neil Plakcy has gathered sensational stories of sizzling porn bodies, sexy boys next door, tantalizing tricks, and sublime Mr. Right Nows. Intertwining favorite fantasies and gay lust, this collection is guaranteed to sing a siren song to those embodiments of perfection who walk among us. More then just pretty faces and heavenly bodies, the men in this volume give as good as they get. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Luke Avery. The Singer quickly became a favorite of evangelists, pastors, artists, students, teachers, and readers of all sorts when it was originally published in 1975. Retelling the story of Christ through an allegorical and poetic narrative of a Singer whose Song could not be silenced, Miller´s work reinvigorated Christian literature and offered believers and seekers the world over a deeply personal encounter with the gospel. The Song is a poetic narrative in the tradition of C.S. Lewis´s Narnia Chronicles and J.R.R. Tolkien´s Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Song is Calvin Miller´s sequel to his earlier, very popular book, The Singer. Miller tells the story of Anthem and Everyman who leave the Great Walled City and travel to Urbis, the city of the Poet King, where followers of the Singer are martyred for their faith. As The Singer parallels the story of the Gospels, so The Song shows certain parallels to the Book of Acts. The Finale is Calvin Miller´s completion of his trilogy including The Singer and The Song. In this final volume, Miller tells the story of the Singer´s final battle with World Hater and envisions in dynamic prosepoetry the winding up of history on Terra One and the creation of Terra Two. As The Singer parallels the story of the Gospels and The Song parallels the book of Acts, so The Finale is an artistic retelling of the book of Revelation. 1. Language: English.
