Ma mre l´oye (Mother Goose Suite) is typical of Ravel´s style with its modal melodies, use of dance forms and rhythmic precision. For this suite, Ravel selected favorite French fairy tales with references to fantasy, dreams and legends of childhood, and provided simple and delicate settings for piano duet (one piano, four hands). Although featuring childhood themes, Ma mre l´oye is at the late intermediate to early advanced level. This teaching/performance edition contains the suite in its entirety and is based on the first edition published by Durand in 1910. Editors Gayle Kowalchyk and E. L. Lancaster have included expert fingering suggestions and hand redistributions for technical ease, and have suggested ways to perform grace notes and glissandi in footnotes. The primo and secondo parts are on separate pages with measure numbers in both parts for easy reference. Late intermediate to early advanced.
Billionaire genius Genoa Greeves never got over the shocking death of her favorite teacher, Bennett ´´Dr. Ben´´ Alston Little, murdered execution-style and stuffed into the trunk of his Mercedes-Benz. No arrests were ever made, no killer charged for the brutal crime. Fifteen years later, the high-tech CEO reads about another execution-style murder; this time the victim is a Hollywood music producer named Primo Ekerling. There is no obvious connection, but the case is eerily similar to Little´s, and Genoa feels the time is right to close Dr. Ben´s case once and for all - offering the L.A.P.D. a substantial financial ´´incentive´´ if justice is finally served for Little. Lieutenant Peter Decker resents having to commit valuable manpower to a 15-year-old open case simply because a rich woman says ´´Jump!´´ Still, the recent murder of Primo Ekerling does bear a disturbing resemblance to Little´s case, even though two thug suspects are currently behind bars for the Ekerling murder. Decker can´t help but wonder about a connection. His first phone calls are to the two primary investigators in the Little case, retired detectives Calvin Vitton and Arnie Lamar. Lamar is cooperative, but Vitton is not only reluctant to talk, he winds up dead of a suspicious suicide 12 hours later. Plunging into this long-buried murder, Decker discovers that even though the two slayings are separated by a decade and a half, there is still plenty of greed, lust, and evil to connect the dots. Decker´s team of top investigators not only includes his favorite homicide detectives, Scott Oliver and Marge Dunn, but also his newly minted Hollywood detective daughter, Cindy Kutiel, whose help proves to be invaluable. His wife, Rina Lazarus, continues to be his backbone of support, offering a cool, rational outlook despite her growing concern for her husband´s welfare and safety. Rina´s worries and fears begin to build at a fevered pitch as past and present collide with a vengea 1. Language: English. Narrator: George Guidall. We do not know. Anyone who says they do is a liar, deluded, wanting to delude or thinks the truth is a metaphor, a rock to hit you with.... Provocative, thoughtful, beautiful, these essays have a directness and humanity that connects with our era. They are wide-ranging and include pieces on filmmakers, artists, and literary and historical figures such as director Ken Loach, contemporary artist Shelly Wyn-de-Bank, graphic novelist Alan Moore, screenwriter of Lawrence of Arabia Robert Bolt, writers George Orwell, Anais Nin, Arthur Koestler, and Primo Levi, and Victorian photographer Francis Meadow Sutcliffe. This is an eclectic, surprising, and delightful collection that takes the listener on a path through grief, into existentialism, the humor of Ealing comedies, the power of the lost cities of Egypt, Hermeticism, sunlight, Shakespeare, oral history, and much more. Tim Dalgleish´s previous work includes numerous plays, two books of poetry, and his book Playing Macbeth: An Actor´s Journey into the Role, which has been called a ´´Fantastic insider´s account´´ and ´´Insightful, entertaining, a lesson in process of any kind, really honest assessments, beautiful language, authentic and alive.... Spaghetti Western is the story of Genesio (Gene) Cioni, his family, community, and the food that made him famous during the fabulous ´50s when he introduced Calgary to Italian cooking. Gene´s story is the quintessential immigrant success story told with a flair for narrative by his daughter Maria Cioni. Gene was just 16 when he arrived from Antrodoco, in the Abruzzi region of Italy, to find one vibrant, close-knit Italian community in the burgeoning city of Calgary in the 1920s. It is in this unlikely frontier city that Gene left his profession as a barber behind to follow his passion for food and cooking, as he worked his way up from busboy to cook to become one of western Canada´s first celebrity chefs. With his wife, Martha, Gene opened Calgary´s first Italian restaurant. Maria´s recollections of growing up in a restaurant family are authentic, detailed, and perceptive, bringing alive the food and treasured traditions that enriched her family´s life. Included in the book are recipes for some of her father´s favorite dishes - secret spaghetti sauce for one hundred people, meatballs, polenta, lasagna, gnocchi - along with the secrets behind Gene´s original style of cooking Calgary´s T-bone steaks, his famous anchovy salad, and how he introduced pizza to his colorful clientele. Italian immigrants frequently faced discrimination and suspicion, especially during the Second World War when they were classified as enemy aliens. For Gene and his German-American wife, Martha, it was doubly difficult. In response, they worked hard to ensure that there would be no bias of any kind in their restaurants. Gene´s was a meeting place for Sugarfoot Anderson, Stu Hart, Duke Ellington, Primo Carnera, and city society, including business leaders, sports heroes, and politicians, but Gene always had room in his restaurant, and his heart, for immigrants who needed a helping hand. 1.
